Keeping your office hygienic: a practical guide for Muscat businesses

A clean office isn’t just about appearances. Shared desks, pantries and washrooms can spread germs quickly among a team — and a hygienic workplace helps people stay healthy and productive.
Focus on high-touch points
The surfaces people touch most are the ones that matter most for hygiene:
- Door handles, push plates and light switches
- Lift buttons and stair rails
- Shared keyboards, phones and meeting-room remotes
- Printer and photocopier controls
- Pantry taps, fridge handles and kettle handles
These should be wiped with a suitable disinfectant every day, not just when they look dirty.
Pantries and kitchenettes
Office pantries are often the least-clean area of the workplace. Encourage staff to clear the fridge weekly, wipe counters after use, and wash mugs promptly. Daily professional cleaning of sinks, counters and appliance exteriors keeps the space safe for food.
Washrooms
Washrooms need cleaning and restocking at least daily in most offices, and more often in busy ones. Clean washrooms are one of the clearest signals to staff and visitors that a business takes hygiene seriously.
Desks and workstations
A clear-desk policy makes cleaning far more effective — cleaners can only wipe surfaces they can reach. Ask staff to clear desks at the end of each day or week.
Floors and dust
Sand and dust are tracked in from outside every day in Oman. Entrance matting, daily vacuuming or mopping, and periodic deep cleaning of carpets keep dust levels down and improve air quality.
Build a schedule that fits
- Daily: high-touch points, washrooms, pantry, bins, floors in busy areas.
- Weekly: detailed dusting, internal glass, full floor care.
- Monthly or quarterly: carpet cleaning, window cleaning, deep cleaning of pantries and washrooms.
A cleaning contract can cover all three levels, with timings arranged before, during or after working hours. Learn more about our office cleaning service.
