Facade cleaning in Muscat & Salalah: how rope access works

A building's facade is the first thing tenants, guests and customers see. In Oman, it's also one of the hardest surfaces to keep clean.
Why facades get dirty so quickly in Oman
- Dust and sand: wind carries fine dust that settles on glass and cladding within weeks.
- Humidity and sea air: coastal buildings in Muscat and Salalah collect salt residue that dulls glass and marks metal finishes.
- Khareef season: in Salalah, months of mist and drizzle leave streaks and deposits once the season ends.
- Height: the dirtiest surfaces are often the ones nobody can reach from inside.
What is rope access cleaning?
Rope access is a method of working at height where trained technicians descend the building on ropes, cleaning the facade section by section. Compared with building a scaffold, it can reach awkward areas quickly and with little disruption at ground level.
How a facade clean is planned
- Site survey: the building, roof access, anchor points and surfaces are checked.
- Method plan: cleaning method, sequence of drops and schedule are agreed with building management.
- Ground safety: areas below the work are controlled while teams are working.
- Cleaning: glass and cladding are cleaned drop by drop down the facade.
- Review: results are checked with the building team before handover.
How often should a facade be cleaned?
There's no single answer. It depends on the building's location, exposure to dust or sea air and the type of finish. Many owners choose a periodic schedule so the facade never reaches the point where marks become hard to remove.
Inside the building, too
Atriums, lobbies and high ceilings collect dust in the same way. Our high-level cleaning service covers those interior areas, and both can be included in a building cleaning contract. Learn more about our facade & rope access service.
