How to prevent pests at home in Oman

Warm weather gives many common household pests ideal conditions. The good news: most infestations start with food, water or an easy way in — and all three can be controlled.
1. Keep the kitchen clean every day
Crumbs, grease and food residue are the biggest attraction for pests. Wipe counters and the hob after cooking, wash dishes promptly, sweep daily and don’t leave pet food out overnight. A periodic kitchen deep clean removes the grease behind and under appliances that daily cleaning misses.
2. Store food properly
Keep dry foods such as rice, flour, dates and cereals in sealed containers. Check cupboards regularly and clear out anything past its date.
3. Manage rubbish
Use bins with tight-fitting lids, empty kitchen bins daily and keep outdoor bins away from doors where possible.
4. Remove standing water
Leaking taps, AC condensation, plant saucers and blocked drains all provide water that pests need. Fix leaks quickly and keep drains clear.
5. Seal entry points
Check gaps around doors, windows, pipes and cables. Door sweeps, window screens and sealant around pipe openings make it much harder for pests to get inside.
6. Reduce clutter
Cardboard boxes and clutter in storerooms, under beds and on balconies create hiding places. Store items in sealed plastic boxes off the floor.
When to call a professional
If you’re seeing pests regularly, in daylight, or in several rooms, the problem is likely established and DIY sprays won’t reach the source. A professional pest control treatment starts with an inspection to find the pest and its entry points, followed by targeted treatment and advice.
